{Tutorial} – How to synchronize your Contacts with their Facebook profile photos on your Android Smartphone

by on   •

This post is going to help you out synchronizing your contacts with their Facebook profile pictures with an easy process :P

HTC Android Devices have the advantage with the special version of Facebook for sense where you can easily find and link your contacts with their Facebook account, but non-HTC users usually don’t know how to achieve this functionality with their stock Android roms or other interfaces like TouchWhiz from Samsung and MotoBlur from Motorolla.

Well, here you can find a solution that’s going to work on these versions too. To be precise this tutorial targets users of STOCK Android firmwares, either custom or not. If you don’t know what version you have just try the steps below and see if it’s applicable for you.
;-)

Let’s start

  1. The first thing we should do is download the Facebook application from the market. Download Facebook for Android
  2. When you install this app on your smartphone, the first time you will run it you should get a message regarding the way you want to synchronize your Contacts (like the screenshot below)

Here you have 3 options in plain english, “Don’t synchronize at all“, “Synchronize only the ones i already have in my contacts” and lastly “Synchronize all of the Facebook contacts into my Google(Phone) contacts“. The one you want is the 2nd one, “Synchronize existing contacts” and as a result Facebook will scan your saved contacts for matches in Facebook contacts and if they have the EXACT same name or the SAME email or phone number they will be updated with their profile photo instantly.

  3. So far so good, just one installation and a simple selection and finish ;-) OR NOT ????
  4. The biggest problem many new Android users have is that they don’t have their contacts correctly named and as a result Facebook application will not match any of them with their respective profile in Facebook. Well there are two solutions to this problem:
    • Change the names of your contacts so they match the profile names in Facebook, mostly first and last name only, in order for the application to match them.
    • OR, you can just change SOME or NONE of the names and just pick yourself manually the profile you want your contact to be synchronized with ( This is the method i am going to explain with the rest of this tutorial )
  5. THIS STEP IS JUST A CONFIRMATION STAGE SO WE CAN SEE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING SET CORRECTLY SO FAR: You should have the Facebook application installed on your phone and at the Synchronize Setting you should have chosen “Sync with existing Contacts“.
IF you didn’t get that message while installing you can manually find the setting with these steps:
    • Open Facebook app
    • Click the TOP LEFT text (it should be News Feed) and go to the main HOME screen with the choices about CHAT, MESSAGES, NEWS etc
    • Now click Menu on your phone and then Settings
    • You should now see at the bottom the option Sync Contacts (like the picture below)

    • Now just open the setting, choose the 2nd option and exit

You should also enable Facebook contacts to be displayed in your Contacts (you can disable it later with the same procedure):

    • Open Contacts application
    • Click Menu and then Display Options
    • At the bottom you should see your email at Facebook, click on it and Tick the check box
    • Click Done and now you should see all of your Facebook contacts along with your Google(Phone) ones
  6. Now we are going to Manually choose a Facebook profile for one of our contacts ( the procedure is the same for all of them )
  7. Open your Contacts application and open the one you want to synchronize
  8. Click Menu and then Edit Contact
  9. Click Menu and then Join
Here you should see a list of Suggested contacts (if any) and a list with All contacts
  10. Now find the Facebook Profile you want to match the contact with and Click on it. Now click Done and exit

The last 5 steps is the procedure you should follow for any contact you would like to synchronize with Facebook. Although i recommend you to change your contacts’ names to their proper first and last name just for the sake of easiness and trouble avoidance. The next time you will want to sync your contacts it will be fully automatic instead of these steps for each one of them.

RECOMMENDATION::: I advise you to disable Facebook contacts from appearing into you Contacts app in order to avoid duplicates and unnecessary contacts you will never call (except of course in Facebook). JUST FOLLOW STEP 5 (the second part)

I hope you liked my tutorial and found it easy to follow. If you have any suggestion or problem at any step please comment below so i can fix it or help you.

{Tutorial} – How to recover deleted files, pictures and anything from your hard drive or memory card

by on   •

Everyone in his lifetime makes the mistake to accidentally delete valuable files from his media devices, either pictures of loved ones or favorite songs etc. This is what we are going to solve today, how to recover those files we erased using an easy application which is free too. :P

The program we will use is Recuva from Piriform. Below you will find the whole procedure explained in easy steps:

  1. Download Recuva
If you want a portable version of the program, which does not need installation and it’s easy to put on a usb drive for use on another PC please download the portable version.

  2. Once you download the application install it on your system and open it. If you downloaded the portable version just UNZIP the folder somewhere and run Recuva

  3. Once opened you will see this welcome screen, just click Next

  4. On this screen now you can choose the type of files you want to recover specifically or choose ‘other’ to search for all file types

Once you have chosen the type you want click next

  5. Now you must choose the location of the deleted files the moment you deleted them. If you do not remember choose I’m not sure but this option will take longer since it searches your whole system for any kind of the type you have chosen.

  6. This is the last screen and we can choose to Deep Scan our system, which takes longer and finds more files to recover (maybe). This option is recommended ONLY if the normal search does not find your files. Normally you should just click Start

  7. Now the search has begun and you just need to wait

  8. Once the search is over a screen with the possible recoveries is shown like below:

Choose the files you want to recover by ticking their boxes and click Recover…

  9. A prompt is going to appear asking for the location to save the recovered files. Please note that it is recommended to choose a drive different than the one where the files are if possible.

  10. If you are here with no problems then your files are recovered and located where have chosen.

Good Luck recovering your files :P

If you face any problem during the procedure don’t hesitate to comment below in order to get help.

{LPSofts} – LPLinks is out – Your new easy way to save your favourite links and notes

by on   •

Today i want to announce the release of LPLinks, LPSofts ‘s new service :P

LPlinks is an easy way to save your favourite links and text notes faster than ever. Instead of opening notepad apps or even worse Microsoft Word to save a website’s link you found or writing down a quick text note you need to remember, now you just need to visit http://lplinks.lambrospetrou.com and add your link or note there. Next time you visit LPLinks your saved notes will be there for you.

LPlinks is based on HTML5 ‘s localStorage feature. What this means is that your links are stored on your PC and they remain on your PC even if you turn off your system or if you don’t visit LPLinks for a long time. From the moment you create them they are here to stay till you delete them.

The only “limitation” is that you must visit LPLinks from the same browser you used to create your links or notes. This is due to localStorage ‘s attribute that each browser and each domain have their own local storage. This will soon be fixed in version 2 where you will have online storage and your links will be accessible from anywhere, anytime with anything.

Just visit LPLinks and test this new service yourself. Its design is minimal and simple, since i am focusing in speed and usefulness.

Many features are being considered and some of them are going to be added this week like saving your notes locally on a text file or sending them directly as email.
Version 2 of LPLinks will bring online storage with username and password access and you will be able to visit your links and notes from anywhere with any device capable of internet browsing.

So, this is it. No more hassle opening Microsoft Word just to save some text or a url link, you no longer need to bookmark every website you visit making your Bookmarks cluttered and unusable.
One bookmark to rule them all, bookmark LPLinks and you will have all your links and notes with just a quick visit to LPLinks

::: PLEASE READ :::
Since LPLinks has just started, post comments, suggestions and problems you faced using the service below so i can fix them in upcoming releases.

Thanks and i hope you like LPLinks :-)

::: IMPORTANT :::
======================
Update 1.1:: The ability to download your LPLinks as a text file has now been added to LPLinks if you want them ‘in-paper’ for a reason :P
