{Turorial} – Ultimate Tutorial to SpeedUp Windows 7 | Make it Run faster than Light itself!!!

Hello everyone :P

Couple a weeks ago i made my tutorial to make your PC running lightning fast with some steps and 2 programs i gave you.
Which you can find here http://mastergenius.net/wordpress/2010/01/23/make-your-pc-running-at-full-speed-with-a-few-easy-steps/

This time i will concentrate just on Windows 7, the latest Operating System from Microsoft and Yeap! the best one so far. Windows 7 is the best, the least buggy and the fastest of all the OSes around in my opinion but why not give it a little more special boost and have our system running at its full capability ??? :-)
(let’s clear something up, the previous tutorial i made is for all windows versions so for windows 7 too, some of the steps covered there are written here too just for completeness of this ultimate guide for Windows 7, and some of the steps here can be used in XP and Vista too)

Let’s Begin the biggest and more covering guide/tutorial on making Windows 7 faster than it already is!
Good Luck folks :P

1)  Filtering the Start-Up Applications List

- Open the MSconfig tool:

Start -> type in search box "msconfig.exe" without quotes and press ENTER

- Now click on the tab named Startup
- You can see now the applications that start when you open your PC. The more you have ticked, the more Apps will start, the more your PC will have slow boots.
- Just UNCHECK the Applications you don’t want to start
- Now that you filtered out the startup apps click Apply (don’t close msconfig since we are going to do some more work into it)

2) Configure MSconfig a tad bit more for optimum performance

- We have been to Startup tab so far so it’s time to move on to the Boot tab
- Here you can change the timeout value on the right, i suggest something between 1-5 secs
- Now click Advanced Options
- Check the first box Number of Processors and in the dropdown box choose the number of CORES your Cpu has. (2 for dual cores etc)
- Now click OK and we are back to the Boot tab
- Check the box where it says “Make all boot settings permanent” and click OK

3) Ok we are done with step 2. Now we are going to edit the SERVICES running on our System.

This is one of the main reasons why our PCs are slowing down A LOT. A good optimization of the services and you are going as fast as a rocket in space.

Start –> type  “services.msc” without quotes in the search box and ENTER

- Now click the standard tab at the bottom
- Here you can see all services running on your system, some of them are automatic, others are manual and others are disabled. The point here is to have as less automatic as possible cause by being automatic they start when your PC goes on. So they slow it down making it a sluggish piece of machine!!! ;)
- Here i provide you a link to a site with information for each service and how it’s recommended to be, i used this guide for my PCs too.
http://www.blackviper.com/Windows_7/servicecfg.htm
Reading through this takes time and yeah it’s time consuming indeed. But as i said before SERVICES are one of the main reasons why PCs are slow so when you have time pay attention to this STEP 3.

4) Now we move on to Uninstalling All the uneccesary Applications from Our System.

- This step is my favourite cause by completing it you earn apart from speed improvement, hard disk space too. For completing this step i again recommend you a program like no other (Please try my recommendations, i spent a LOT LOT of time trying programs and these are really good), anw the program i recommend for this step is YourUninstaller PRO 2008. Not only it removes programs but also eliminates all traces they leave behind them.
- Download it by clicking the link above and install it with the keygen inside or if you are more ethical man buy the program.
- After doing this open the application, you will see all the programs installed on your system. By doing a strict choice for what you want, uninstall all the others by clicking uninstall on each one of them (finish one and then moe on to another).
- BE CAREFUL at this point, at first the uninstaller of the program will start as ususal, after finishing it DO NOT restart even if it’s suggests you to do. Finish the uninstall and then you’ll see that YourUninstallerPro goes a step ahead and searches for all the traces left behind, after finding them click next and it will clean them all.
- DO this for all the programs you do not need instead of the windows built in uninstaller cause this way all traces are deleted.
- YourUninstaller PRO has some nice tools if you search it but they are optional for anyone who is curious

5) Edit the Visual Effects and boost Performance!

Start -> type "sysdm.cpl" without quotes in the search box and hit ENTER

- Go to the Advanced tab
- Click the Performance Settings
- Now in Visual effects choose what you want and don’t want from the list. The less you have the more boost in performance you’ll notice. You can leave only the following on if you want for better user experience at minimum resources

  • Enable desktop composition (If you want to use Windows Aero theme)
  • Enable transparent glass (If you want to use transparency in Windows)
  • Show thumbnails instead of icons (If you want to show thumbnails in Explorer)
  • Show window contents while dragging (If you want windows to show content while moving them)
  • Smooth edges of screen fonts (If you want to show smooth fonts)
  • Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop (If you want to show shadows under desktop icon labels)
  • Use visual styles on windows and buttons (If you want to use Windows Aero or Basic theme.)
  • Show transclucent selection rectangle (for having a rectangle when selecting multiple files)

- Now go the advanced tab and check the “Programs” in Adjust performance best for!
- OK and again OK to exit :P

6) Folder Options

Open Windows Explorer and go to Organize and then Folder and Search Options and choose the View tab

Now see the list and check the appropriates for your taste. I recommend having the following disabled though:

  • Display file size information in folder tips
  • Always show menus
  • Display icons on thumbnails
  • Hide extensions for known file types (i have this one enabled to recognise the files :P )
  • Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color
  • Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items

7) Move on to the Sounds

Start -> type in the search box "mmsys.cpl" without quotes and hit ENTER

- Now click the Sounds tab
- Choose from the schemes list No Sounds or try to disable the ones you don’t want
- It’s important to turn off the sounds for “Windows logon“, “Windows logoff” and “Shutdown

8 ) You don’t do Search ? Then why not disabling it

If you are the kind of user that just explores and gets the file he wants and do not use search regularly then you can disable the Search Indexing Service.

Start -> type "services.msc" without quotes into the search box and hit ENTER

- Now find the service called Windows Search
- Right click it and choose Properties.
- From the dropdown menu choose Disabled
- OK and exit

By disabling the service we can still do search normally but the system will not eat up memory indexing our searches. If you are using the search feature a lot then this might not be good to disable. Try it and see the difference yourself.

9) AERO Theme – Performance Vs Graphics

The Windows 7 Aero theme adds eyecandy features all around the system, shadows, transparency, and many other user interface tidbits. If you have a not-so-latest hardware and just want performance over graphic interface then you can disable the aero theme and you will notice a MAJOR boost in performance.

- Right click on Desktop and click Personalize
- Click the Window Color and uncheck the Enable Transparency and click Save Changes
- Now choose a theme from the basic ones and you will be fast like 100m dasher :-)

10) Turn off UAC (User Account Control) – Not for Newbies

Copy this into the adress bar of any of your explorer windows or go to it manually

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts

- Change User Account Control Settings
- Slide the bar far bottom to Never Notify and click OK

Now you won’t receive all those permission dialog boxes if you want to run the application etc.

11) Remove all the Windows features you do not use

- Click the START, then select Control Panel.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Select Turn Windows features on or off.

And check or uncheck the ones you want to have. Once finished click OK and wait for the windows to finish installing or uninstalling!

12) Disabling the Sidebar Widget

- Right Click on it and click Properties
- Uncheck the box where it says “Start sidebar when Windows Starts

OK now there won’t be any side bar!

13) Disable any screen saver and even wallpaper

If you want even more performance you can disable your screen saver and your wallpaper. Just use a solid color as background if you are in an aged pc.

14) Defragging and Registry Cleaning 8)

You can use my previous tutorial for detailed information on this topic but i will copy some parts here, Defragging, Cleaning junk files and registry are important tasks you should do every week if you ask me if not daily in order to help your system maintain its stability and performance.

First of all DOWNLOAD Auslogics Boost Speed 4

- When you open Auslogics you see the welcome page. I want you to click on Computer Clean Up from the left panel. Here there are 4 tools.

Disk Cleaner
Registry Cleaner
Uninstall Manager
Startup Manager

We will use the first 2 tools mainly cause the later 2 are already covered in the steps above.
- Run DiskCleaner and RegistryCleaner about once a week and you will always be ok. When you click on them there will be some choices for you to check. I check all the checkboxes although it says for some that is dangerous and didn’t have any problems so far, in contrary it’s better for best results.
- Now we go a little further, click on Optimization on the left panel and do the first 3 tools.
disk defragment
registry defragment
internet optimizer
it’s easy to complete them so no more details on this one.
- Information and Control is our last stop in Auslogics for now. Click on it and open the Tweak Manager. This is a manager that handles a lot of tweaks (REALLY HELPFUL AND USABLE) not easily found within windows. Discover this yourself and optimize it your way.
- The rest of the tools are optional for anyone to try them. Good they make bad they don’t

15) Some registry tweaks for you :) by me!!!

First of all Download this Registry File – Tweaks for XP / VISTA / 7 (right click on it and choose SAVE AS )

This file contains some tweaks that will make your PC even faster and with some shortcuts too. Below are the tweaks detailed:

  • Adds “Open Folder with CMD” and “Open File with CMD” so that you can easily open a folder or a file into the Command Prompt
  • Adds “Copy To” and “Move To” options in files and folders context menu, so that you can easily copy and move them to other locations.
  • Sets Windows to automatically end task of programs which are either hanged or taking longer time than expected to exit.
  • Decreases menus show delay time to 0, it’ll show the sub-menus fast when you select their parent menu.
  • Disables the low disk space check so that you don’t get the annoying low disk space notification in system tray.
  • Sets Windows to not waste time in searching for a program which no longer exists in your system when you try to open its shortcut.
  • Disables “search on Internet” prompt in “Open with” window so that it directly opens the program list.
  • Speeds up the Explorer navigation.
  • Adds “Take Ownership” option in files and folders context menu so that you can easily take ownership of files and folders in case you want to replace them for customization purpose.

Right click the file above and choose Save Target As(I.Explorer) or Save Link As (M.Firefox)
When the download is finished run it and click OK when it asks for your permission.

Restart and see the results!!!

Fewww that was another one big tutorial for you :P :-) If you follow my guide step by step i am sure you will be amazed at how fast your PC actually is. The most important points you need to have in your mind if you want the hard work you did now to last and have one super douper PC are:
Defragmenting Hard Drive
Removing Junk Files
Cleaning up Registry
Derfagmenting Registry

You can do these with Auslogics Boost Speed 4 i gave you above but there are other tools too if you don’t want to get my recommendation. The point is to do these things to be consistent.

Also for the non Windows 7 users many of these tricks can be done in XP and VISTA, try them and see yourself which one is good for your configuration!

Thank you all for reading my guide and i am looking forward your Comments with Your results.

Ultimate Tutorial / Guide to SpeedUp Windows 7 | make it faster than Light itself!!! :P by MasterGenius.NET (Lambros Petrou)

{Tutorial} – Open Command Prompt Here (right click shortcut)

There are times when everyone wants to open a command prompt when he navigates a folder but it’s kind of boring and time taking to open the command prompt and manually navigate to the folder he wants. Here i am going to show you how you can add a shortcut when you right click a folder in order to open that folder in command prompt or run a file in command prompt :P

  1. Open Regedit (Start->Run->Regedit  Or  Start->type in search box “regedit” without quotes)
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Classes/Folder/Shell
  3. Now right click and ADD a key
    name Command Prompt
default value Open the Directory in CMD (double click default value to change its value)
  4. Now right click inside that key and create a new key
    name command
default value cmd.exe /k pushd %L (double click default value to change its value)

This works for every Windows System (xp/vista/7)!!! But in Vista and 7 there is new trick you can use if you are afraid of changing registry values.

You can right click the folder you want to open in command prompt by having the SHIFT key pressed and you will have the option in the new menu. (SHIFT + Right Click the folder)

I Made two files with the registry keys for you if you don’t want to get smudged with regedit.
Download it and just run it.
Command Prompt Registry(directories) for Windows 98 and NT4.0 Systems
Command Prompt Registry(directories) for Windows 2000/ME/XP/VISTA/7

Now let’s say you want to open a file into the command Prompt and not a directory we can do the same trick but with other KEYS. Download the files below or do it manually with Regedit.

  1. Open Regedit (Start->Run->Regedit  Or  Start->type in search box “regedit” without quotes)
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Classes/*/Shell
  3. Now right click and ADD a key
    name Command Prompt
default value Open the File in CMD (double click default value to change its value)
  4. Now right click inside that key and create a new key
    name command
default value cmd.exe /k %1 (double click default value to change its value)

Download the .reg files below if you just want to import the shortcuts.!!!
Command Prompt Registry(files) for Windows 98 and NT4.0 Systems
Command Prompt Registry(files) for Windows 2000/ME/XP/VISTA/7

Nice tricks for anyone that uses command prompt a lot! :P

{Tutorial} – How to enable the language bar in Windows (ALL Versions)

Hello everyone,

Today i am going to tell you how you can enable the language bar in your Windows PC. There times where the language bar disappears and we can not write in other than the system language. Or when for a reason we have it disabled and cannot enable it again. Here you can find out how easy it is to bring it up and type in what ever language you desire :P

Firstly some information about the process that is responsible for the language bar – CTFMON.EXE:

  1. What is the ctfmon.exe file ?
Ctfmon.exe activates the Alternative User Input Text Input Processor (TIP) and the Microsoft Office Language Bar.
  2. What Does the Ctfmon.exe File Do?
Ctfmon.exe monitors the active windows and provides text input service support for speech recognition, handwriting recognition, keyboard, translation, and other alternative user input technologies.

Source

Ok, now that you know what this process is where do we find it and how can we bring it up ?

Go to "C:\Windows\System32" (where C: is your system drive)

Right Click on the “Ctfmon.exe” and select “Pin to Start Menu” or “Create a shortcut”. Now double click it to enable the language bar.

Now everytime you open your PC and the language bar is missing click your shortcut from start menu or wherever you put it.

For any questions or problems don’t hesitate to comment !!!

Thanks for reading ;-)

{Tutorial} – Make Your PC Running at FULL Speed with a few EASY steps!

Hello everyone ;) ,

It’s been a long time since my last post but today i ‘m coming back with a lot of info. Is your PC running slow ? You want it to perform even better than the first day you got it ? No further search is required, you ‘ve found the right article to find out how you can do it.

What we will use:
1. Two applications i use which i strongly recommend to everyone, AuslogicsBoostSpeed 4 and YourUninstaller PRO 2008
2. No fear to play with your PC
3. I absolutely recommend Auslogics BoostSpeed 4 for this tutorial cause it’s really outstanding. I tested it on 5 PCs and believe me i’ve never seen such results. (i provide a link to the homepage of the application to buy it if you want but i i offer a cracked version too if you want to try it and then buy it)

We will take it step-by-step so everyone can follow. Let’s the Optimization start :D

1) Filter the Startup Applications when you open the PC

- Download a program that can change which programs are starting on their own when your windows loads like Starter (Freeware) or the Auslogics BoostSpeed 4 (Shareware – Recommended).
- Now open the program and uncheck the ones that you do not want to open. The less the applications start the faster the boot will be. Softwares like MSN, Google, Picassa and everything that’s not needed by the system is recommended to be disabled. I even disabled bluetooth and camera assistant. You can enable them whenever you are going to use them through the start menu->all programs
- Now save your choices (on Starter) and close the application. You will see quite difference only by this but we are going a lot further.

2) Now we are going to make some changes into our MSCONFIG – system settings to optimize the PC a bit. I think everybody now use dual core cpus but i am quite sure it will have results for single cores too.

- Press START and then in winXP–>RUN and in VISTA click the search box at the bottom
- Now write either the RUN dialog box or the Vista search box the following: “msconfig”
- You will have a screen like this msconfig
- Now click on BOOT next to GENERAL and in “timeout” value put something like 5 secs.
- Click the “Advanced Options” and in the cores box select the cores for you system and click ok.
- The 4 checkboxes in the BOOT tab must be all unchecked.
msconfig_boot
- The next tab Services is something we will discuss later so bookmark it. Now go to the StartUp tab and you can again see the programs that automatically start when you turn your PC on. You can change them from here too if you don’t want any of the applications recommended in Step 1 above.
- OH Something i forgot, BEFORE you click ok or anything, after you make the changes in the BOOT tab check the box Make all changes permanent so when you click the Ok or Apply button to be saved.

3) Ok we are done with step 2 too. Now we are going to edit the SERVICES running on our System. This is one of the main reasons why our PCs are slowing down A LOT. A good optimization of the services and you are going as fast as a rocket in space. You can use the services manager from the AUSLOGICS BOOSTSPEED 4 or from the built in service manager.

- Start –>RUN(XP) or SEARCH BOX(VISTA) –> and type in “services.msc”
- Now click the standard tab at the bottom
- Here you can see all services running on your system, some of them are automatic, others are manual and others are disabled. The point here is to have as less automatic as possible cause by being automatic they start when your PC goes on. So they slow it down making it a sluggish piece of machine!!! ;)
- Here i provide you a link to a site with information for each service and how it’s recommended to be, i used this guide for my PCs too.
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm (for XP machines)
http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm (for VISTA machines)
Reading through this takes time and yeah it’s time consuming indeed. But as i said before SERVICES are one of the main reasons why PCs are slow so when you have time pay attention to this STEP 3.

4) Now we are moving even further!!! Uninstalling All the uneccesary Applications.

- This step is my favourite cause by completing it you earn apart from speed improvement, hard disk space too. For completing this step i again recommend you a program like no other (Please try my recommendations, i spent a LOT LOT of time trying programs abd these are really good), anw the program i recommend for this step is YourUninstaller PRO 2008. Not only it removes programs but also eliminates all traces they leave behind them.
- Download it by clicking the link above and install it with the keygen inside.
- After doing this open the application, you will see all the programs installed on your system, By doing a strict choice for what you want uninstall all the others by clicking uninstall on each one of them.
- YourUninstaller PRO has some nice tools if you search it but they are mandatory for anyone who is curious :P

5) We made it to step 5. Here we will use the Auslogics BoostSpeed 4 tools to make our PC . . . . PERFECTLY OPTIMIZED ;) Yeah don’t laugh, all these steps are by me and there are nowhere else gothered all in one place. I am helping you at this cause a lot of people are having problems cause their PCs are slow and it’s because they don’t know how to use them.

- When you open Auslogics you see the welcome page. I want you to click on “Computer Clean Up” from the left panel.
- Now we go a little further, click on “Optimization” on the left panel and do the first 3 tools.
disk defragment
registry defragment
internet optimizer
it’s easy to complete them so no more details on this one.
- “Information and Control” is our last stop in Auslogics for now. Click on it and open the Tweak Manager. This is a manager that handles a lot of tweaks (REALLY HELPFUL AND USABLE) not easily found within windows. Discover this yourself and optimize it your way.
- The rest of the tools are optional for anyone to try them. Good they make bad they don’t ;)

6) Last step is some recommendations i have for you to follow!
- Install CCleaner and use it: it’s for removing junk and temp files from your registry and harddisk.
- Regularly check your system with an antivirus
- Once or twice a week open AUSLOGICS and run the cleaners we discussed above for consistency.
- DO NOT install any toolbars or advertised programs that make your PC REALLYYYYYYYY slow.
- You do not need to follow the steps as written, any order you take them will do the job but at the end do the 4 Auslogics cleaners and defraggers!!!

I hope you enjoyed my guide and had results. I am greatly sure that you WILL have at least 300% faster PC than before. I am waiting for your comments on how you found the guide and your results.

Thanks for reading and please forgive me for any bad english ;( :P

UPDATE: Windows 7 users can see my new Ultimate Tutorial on speeding up your Windows HERE (XP / VISTA users can use many of the tricks too)

{Tutorial} – Fix your Master Boot Record (MBR) in Windows XP/ VISTA/ 7

Hello my friends and Merry Christmas, wish you the best! :P

Today i am going to explain you how you can fix your master boot record (mbr) in your windows setup, either xp, vista or 7. When we have dual boot systems especially windows with linux or even windows versions and then you decide that you don’t want the either problems at your booting might come along when you delete the one you don’t want. We are here to Fix this issue now :)

Firstly starting with XP:

  1. First of all you want a cd of the windows XP installation.
  2. Insert it and boot your PC, choose your CD as the boot option and ait for the windows files to load.
  3. Now press R as we want to get into the recovery console of the disk.
  4. You will then asked to choose the operating system to log into. Usually it’s the first option you want so press the number 1 and enter.
  5. Enter your password and enter.
  6. Ok now we are at the “Windows” location in the command prompt like below:
    c:\WINDOWS>
  7. Now enter the following commands
    c:\windows>fixmbr
    c:\windows>fixboot
  8. Now you can exit the console and restart your PC normally.

Now let’s go over to Vista users:

  1. First of all you want a vista dvd on which you must boot in during the startup of your system.
  2. When Windows load every file and display you the screen where you can shoo Install, you must choose the Repair your computer option from bottom left corner
  3. Then it will want you to choose the System you want so choose your vista installation and OK
  4. Next choose the command prompt
  5. Now you must type these commands:
    Bootrec.exe /fixMBR
    Bootrec.exe /fixBoot
  6. It will say you that it was succesful, exit the command prompt and RESTART
  7. Now you are ready to go :P

Now we move over to Windows 7 users:

  1. Insert Win 7 installation DVD and boot from DVD drive.
  2. Choose your default “Language”, “Time”, and “keyboard Input” on the first window and click next.
  3. Now you have the option to Install, but what we want is to repair so choose the Repair Your Computer option.
  4. Choose the command prompt
  5. Now here we must go into the boot folder of the win7 DVD. To do this you must guess the dvd drive letter, for example if you only have one disk and one partition which is C: then probably the dvd drive will be D: . Once you find it enter the following

    cd d:\boot and press enter

if it doesn’t work try typing just D: and then if the command prompt change to D:\> type cd boot

  6. Now that we are into the boot folder of our DVD we must type the following command to fix the master boot record (mbr):
    bootsect /nt60 C: /force /mbr

Where C: is you can type two more keywords instead of that. Consider that C: is your system drive though. Ok the first one is the SYS (it will choose the partition that have the atrribute as system and fix that one) keyword and the second one is the ALL (it will fix all the partitions and disks). Also you can not use the /force and /mbr arguments but i think it’s better to do.

Ok everybody now you can fix your MasterBoot Record on your own :P :)
